It was nicer out today so we decided to enjoy our last day of vacation at the park. It is a weird day when I say the weather is nice and it's 80 degrees, but I suppose compared 100+ degrees, it is.

We walked over to the park by us and enjoyed a tasty lunch. Palmer Park is almost always peaceful and quiet, no matter what day we are there (I'm not even sure people know that park is there).
One of the great things about the park is the boardwalk and all the cool things you can see, like this adorable fawn. It's not a very good photo, but promise me, it was adorable.

Now I wish I had taken my SLR with me on the walk....

Next time.

Yup.

When we got up in the morning at the hotel in Traverse City, we saw that it had rained, although not much.

I'd been up since around 4:30 in the morning and was more or less ready to leave the hotel, so we left by 10 and were off to find breakfast and headed back to the park.  A part of me would have liked to have stayed and visited a few wineries, but knowing we needed to drive back to Grand Rapids and wanting to go back to Sleeping Bear Dunes, it wasn't worth waiting around for a few hours for the tasting rooms to open.

So we drove back across to the park and hike a trail.  Yesterday we'd more or less just enjoyed the beach and the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive at the park.  So today was a day to enjoy hiking one of the trails.  I picked Platte Plains because I knew Chris liked the look of pine plantations and the trail goes through a part of one.

We got to see a lot of work that the beavers had done to some trees and even saw some critter resting out and about in the lake.  I'm not 100% sure what it was, but it was still cool.

There were plenty of critters to see - birds, snakes, butterflies, and more.  And lovely sights to hold.  It was a really peaceful, fun walk.

The loop we did was more or less 4.5 miles, so since I kept stopping to take photos and the like it took us a few hours.

after that we headed over to Glen Arbor so I could hit up Cherry Republic, a winery, and then we were off back on our way home to assure Leki and Peppy we were still there to give them food and attention.

Previously Girl's Night was scheduled for tonight. I didn't quite make it though. I've been alternating between feeling fine and feeling crappy from a headache and sinus pressure so I thought it best not to sit in bar for the evening.

Instead Chris and I took a walk on Kent Trails which seemed to clear up my sinuses a bit and I felt better. As you can see, along the trail we ran into some ducks. Chris even has a very Duck-Hunt feeling video. Just missing the snickering dog.

The rest of the evening was pretty lazy. After snapping a shot of Leki being bad I pretty much hung out and relaxed, playing a little Dragon Age and enjoying a peaceful evening.

Every day this week I've come home to find a squirrel perched on the bird feeder. Now I'm not like most people - I'm not angry that they're stealing from the birds or anything like that. Actually, I'm impressed. I remember watching one of them over the winter run around back and forth trying desperately to get up at the thing.

Well, I dont know if this is the same one or not but kudos to you, you cheeky little squirrel.

If you've ever seen Hitchcock's The Birds, you know how frightening this scene really is.

I was out at East Paris Nature Park today, trying to ride in the 90+ weather, and stumbled across some geese chilling in the shade. As I was taking out my camera to snap a photo, they spotted me and started to advance.

As you can see from these photos, they continued to slowly swim their way over to me. Hoping, no doubt, that I had a bag of bread stuffed in my camera bag.

Lucky for me some unsuspecting children and their grandparents were stopping by to attempt fishing. Since there were more people over by the bridge, they casually changed course. I'm sure they figured the odds of being fed were greater with a greater concentration of humans.

So today I was at the Detroit Zoo, hanging with some friends. While looking at one of the exhibits, and discussing with John the zombie craze that has taken over video games as of late, he suddenly realized that some serious protection could be had if one owned a vulture.

Now seriously, hear me out. Nearly every movie or depiction of zombies you see it only affects humans (yes yes, there are exceptions like 28 Days Later, but stop ruining my fun!). Well zombies are just dead (albeit reanimated) flesh. Vultures eat dead flesh. So, vultures + zombies = escape!

I officially have a plan B in case of zombie attack. Thanks John!

The last time I was at Pickerel Lake Park it started raining and I wasn't really able to get any good photographs. Well this time I could get a little closer to the swans I saw last time. Unfortunately, this was as close as I could get still. :/ And the zoom on my camera apparently isnt strong enough....

Still, you can make out the male and female (on the pile) hanging by their nest.

...you make bath time so much fun!

Ok seriously. Being out on a lake means you spot a lot of birds. Ducks, geese, loons, and even swans litter the surface of St Mary's Lake. So far the swans haven't gotten close enough, but I've snagged pics of the others.

Here is a pic of a female duck I caught. She was swimming around while the male was just a few feet away watching her.

I'll also throw in a pic of some geese I was watching at Scottsville Riverside Park.
