Chris made the little one a Poltergust-G00 (which is the games version of a Ghostbuster backpack)
We took the skywalk to the convention, which I absolutely love and miss, now that the weather is turning cold. I can't wander around in an office park the same way I could when I worked downtown.
We stopped by to visit friends at their booths, including Corinne Roberts.
As usual, we spent time at the lego table, letting the little one build.
The nice thing about the skywalk is that you go through a hotel. Since Luigi's Mansion 3 takes place in a hotel (as opposed to a haunted mansion), it was perfect for a ghost-busting Luigi to explore.

It's another year for Grand Rapids Comic Con! We visited our friends Adam and Comfort, as well as Corinne.
We also played some arcade games together.
And did lots of LEGO construction!

Today is Grand Rapids Comic Con! Since it's local, it's an easy show for us to pop in and out of. We headed down in the morning for their opening.

We visited Comfort and Adam's booth while we were in the area.
As well as Corinne Robert's booth.
Quinn had a great time with all of the costumes everywhere.
And he was able to have some fun with a plethora of lego wheels laid out at a toy table. As a special bonus he napped over two and a half hours, so I'd say this day was a success!

Today is the 3rd annual Grand Rapids Comic Con! Every year they've moved the venue because the event keeps growing, so this year it's downtown at the DeVos Place.

Chris is a big fan of Green Lantern and a few years ago he bought me a Red Lantern shirt. So of course we were going to make Quinn a lantern too! We decided on a White Lantern.

Dan came over and we all rode downtown together.
We ran into R2D2 while we waited for the doors to open.
We visited Comfort and Adam's booth, which was pretty nice (it was a corner booth!).
And we stopped by to see Corinne in artist alley.
Corinne is so sweet she had this adorable little Green Lantern hat made for Quinn.
The line to get into the con around lunch was getting longer. It wasn't quite out the door, but it was almost there.

This was our first experience out and about with Quinn at an event like this. It was a little stressful for me, just worrying if he was going to get tired, hungry, frustrated, or just be unhappy. I'm not sure why I worried so much - he is usually so happy and easy going. Plus Chris, who is home with him all day, wasn't worried at all.

And of course everything went fine. He was a trooper and stayed awake from 7:40 in the morning to about noon. We even tried to step aside into a quiet place to let him nap and he was too interested in everything to nap. It wasn't until we were on our way back to the car did he finally pass out in the stroller.

I think next year will be even more fun. Quinn will be older and it will be the second year in this venue, so some of the traffic flow oddities will be resolved by then.

Today is the first full day of the Grand Rapids Comic Convention. So we headed out pretty early to check things out before it got too busy. Last year (their first year) by 3pm they were turning people away and the building was packed. They've moved to the Delta Plex Arena this year, which is larger than a school gym.

Comfort and Adam were there, of course, and all set and ready to go.
Corinne was there as well, and had a pretty nice booth setup. She's a friend of Comfort and Adam's and has been going to several conventions with them. It was cool to see her there.

We met up with Dan and we walked around for several hours checking everything out.

The convention filled up pretty fast. We left by 1pm and it was already getting hot, smelly (there isn't good air ventilation in a few spaces) and packed. I noticed that by 2pm they'd stop selling their tickets because they'd reached capacity. But that's good news for them. It definitely means that there is a demand for this type of show in the area, which is fantastic news for Comfort and Adam since they're moving back to town next week.

Grand Rapids Comic Con is a one day con that debuted today. It's in the same building the Toy and Comic Expo we attended earlier this year, which is pretty close to our house. We arrived about 20 minutes before the doors opened and there was already a pretty impressive line.
They had a pretty nice program guide for the event, complete with a little bio for each of the vendors and artists in Artist Alley (although to be honest, the vendors and artists were intermingled in the same room, so I guess there wasn't a true Artist Alley, which is fine).

The building was pretty small, so while the program didn't have a map, it was pretty easy to find which room was hosting which panel.

And yes, there were panels. We poked our head into a few rooms but didn't stay for any.

I'm just excited there were panels! I was tempted to stay and watch some Trigun, since I'm a huge fan...
The vending room, which had both the vendors and artists, was pretty packed. There was even a full-size Mach 5 car replica from Speed Racer.
We ran into Adam and Comfort's good friend Corinne Roberts. I also saw Meghann Pardee, who is with Studio Acramill, though their table was pretty busy as well and I wasn't able to stop and say hello.

We also got to meet up with both Jeff and Dave, two of Chris's friends who were also at the convention (as attendees, not artists).
We left after a few hours to run some errands. Later in the day we noticed that the event was at capacity and people were being turned away. That's pretty impressive. I think they had a larger turn out than expected. And at $5 a person, it's pretty cheap entertainment.

There were plenty of high school and college aged kids lining the hall, playing on their 3DS or chatting with their friends about their costumes. The whole event definitely felt like it pulled a page from an anime convention. And honestly, that's my favorite part about anime conventions - how energetic and excited everyone gets.

Chris made out with a Knight Rider action figure and I enjoyed the ton of 3DS street passes I received. Chris has a pretty nice write-up of the event on his blog as well.

I look forward to going to the event again next year!
