It depends on how long he likes his scarves. And if it is just straight knitting (or crocheting) it gets kind of boring. I would say at least 4 feet.
I can see why you want to make the other one - it's gorgeous!
Maybe you should make it a Dalek scarf...
I really do like the teardrop scarf. I actually bought the yarn for it so I might eventually make it.
And yeah, the scarf for Chris is boring probably because it is just repetition.
Also, Daleks are awesome.
