Rain! Which is better than snow.

It's shaping up to be a rainy week...

Bleh. More rain today....

Another rainy day in downtown, walking through the skywalk.

It rained a large chunk of yesterday and it's rained quite a bit today. Thunder and lightening, however, haven't been making much of an appearance.

I don't mind the rain except around lunchtime. As the weather gets warmer, my desire to be outdoors reading increases. But with the rain I'm stuck indoors. That means another day of wandering the skywalk for me, and reading on one of the carpeted stools in a corner near the Devos Hall.

It's a rainy January day.

It's raining! Finally! It's been pretty dry the last several week so a nice steady rain is what we needed. Plus the rain sounds fantastic throughout the house when all the windows are open.

Rain was intense for a few minutes at lunch, but the rain left the rest of the day relatively cool in comparison to the last few days. I'm ok with that.
I pulled out an old Zipit z2 wireless messenger Chris bought awhile back. In looking back at my blog, I apparently haven't touched it since he bought it in 2009. Oops.

Anyway, I poked around a bit on the internet doing some research on various Linux flavors you can put on it. The Debian port I was originally going to put on it when he first bought it appears to no longer be available (at the very least some of the files aren't easy to obtain and the Debian version isn't supported anymore). So I read through a few different options that are currently supported.

Mozzwald has a pretty cool blog that goes back several years and details his trials and experiences with different linux builds. There was even a nice state of the Zipit post from earlier this year.

Right now I'm leaning toward putting OpenWRT on it but I'm not committed yet.

Rainy days like today just make me want to curl up with tea and a book.

Then promptly fall asleep.

So I take back yesterday's post. Apparently rain was on the horizon, just a few days further out than initially quoted. At least it didn't start raining until after we got home. I was able to enjoy my lunch rain-free.
Anyway, as you can tell, it was a bit windy out.

For the last several days the weather forecast in Grand Rapids has been for rain and thunderstorms. We haven't had anything more than a small shower overnight, which is fine by me. I've spent the last few days waiting for rain and being pleasantly surprised when it hasn't come.

On a completely different note, Comfort and Adam posted an awesome blogpost today about our wedding. It made me misty!

I spent a big chunk of the day hanging out with Chris while he worked on wedding invitations. He's designed the entire invitation, from the font-type down to severity of the curve cut on the paper. He has a ton more patience than I do and the invitations look fantastic. He's so badass with projects.

So with Chris busy and it raining outdoors, I took the opportunity to finish up the latest Daniel Keys Moran book, AI War and start in on the next series I'm going to tackle - Asimov's Robot series.

I also made cranberries, cause I love them and Thanksgiving is far too long off.

In the morning it looked like it was going to rain. By lunch it looked sunny and safe out. All that changed as the sun started to set. In rolled the rain clouds, ready to hang around for the weekend.

Luckily we have enough running around with wedding-related activities that the rainy weather isn't messing up plans to hike or hang out the park.

Now, I didn't remember to take a photo today. So that means you get to enjoy this rainy rose photo from a few years back instead.

The day was sunny on lunch. Sunny all afternoon, and sunny even when we got off of work. But after dinner while we were taking a stroll down Kent Trails it got darker, storm clouds slowly rolling in.

Where we are, we didn't get much. hardly much rainfall or thunder and lightening. I'm sure it was worse north and south of us (it usually is).

At least the clouds looked neat! So it was a good evening.

Plus I finished up Portal 2. Now onto the co-op!

The forecast over the next several days if that of rain. River flood warnings and tornadoes; all the hallmarks of spring in West Michigan.

Since it wasn't raining when I left for lunch, I headed over to the sheltered area at the Grand Rapids Art Museum to read a little and enjoy being outside.

I suspect the next several days will be darker and full of rain, so taking advantage while I can!

Enjoyed a brief lunch outdoors near Rosa Park Circle before the rain comes for the next few days. Lunch started out warm but toward the end it was chilly and starting to sprinkle. It was good to be outside a bit, even if it might be a few weeks before I can have most lunches outside again.

Most of the day it rained. And rained. And rained.  It let up a little around lunch time, so I was able to sneak out to Rosa Park Circle and read a little more of The Long Run by Daniel Keys Moran.  I've been neglecting my Kindle a bit as of late so it was good to get back to some reading.

Most of the day it rained, which meant no real venturing out at the park and enjoying the weather.

Instead we headed out to the mall to do a little bit of shopping, though when all was said and done we didn't end up getting anything.  Still, it was good to at least get out of the apartment and walk around a bit.

This morning I woke to the sounds of rain and thunder once more.

On days I have to leave the house, unlike Monday which was a holiday, rain can have more of an impact.

As shown here, I spent part of my morning stopped on the freeway, watching lanes of traffic attempt to merge in the barely moving array of vehicles.

It rained a big chunk of Sunday as well. So we didn't really get a chance to bike ride or do a picnic this weekend, as hoped.  Instead Chris worked on his C2E2/Chicago trip video and I played more Lord of the Rings Online.  Look at that picture and tell me you wouldn't rather the weather be like that, swimming in a nice body of water with sunny skies?

The rain let up in the early evening, so after an unnecessary nap that ate up the afternoon, Chris and I headed out to stroll down Kent Trails.  It still looked stormy, but it didn't rain at all while we walked for a few miles, and it was good to get out of the apartment for a bit.

The tulips planted all over the apartment complex are up and ready to open any day.  They're a lovely array of colors tossed all over the wooded complex.

I also made a tasty-looking chocolate cake in the bread machine (which, of course, looks like a chocolate loaf of bread).  I'm looking forward to trying it in a bit with some tasty vanilla ice cream.
